The ones I received were in full bloom, so I enjoyed all their fragrance and beauty as soon as I extracted them from their 5-foot tall boxes. I'm rather new at this, so the instructions for planting and care were very welcome. After planting there was a huge bumblebee that decided to guard the new Lilac bushes, so I had to sniff carefully, but it appears this rare warm-climate strain is settling nicely into its drip-irrigated home and promises to make springtime a yearly pleasure for man and bee.

The Blue Skies Lilac is one of the best lilacs for warm winter areas. In the spring, this lilac plant will explode with spectacular clusters of light lavender-blue flowers that are produced without winter chilling! Enjoy this plant in full to partial sun. The Blue Skies can reach to 10 feet tall, 6 feet wide or clip to shape. Monrovia nursery recommends using as a single specimen focal point at some far point of the garden. If used close to patio or porch, fragrance can be enjoyed as you come in and out of your home. In sideyards and as hedges dividing houses, the windows can be open for the floral scent to waft indoors. Lilac plants make excellent background for perennial borders. (More customer reviews)We bought this big bag of lavender because we recently moved to a desert area and in the first month here, we had seven confirmed scorpion sightings in the house or immediately outside the front door. My wife -- how can I put this diplomatically? -- did not react well to this.
So having read about people using lavender to keep scorpions away, I bought many products out of desperation hoping to achieve peace in the home. We used this lavender by placing it in these muslin drawstring bags, and tossing the bags all around the house.
There are three bits of good news about this. First and most importantly, we have not seen a single scorpion in more than a month since we spread the lavender around. Second, my wife likes the lavender smell. Third, the lavender smell is not strong enough for me to notice, so it doesn't really bother me. But our experience suggests that those looking for lavender for general potpourri purposes will not be disappointed.
The real test will be in the summer, when scorpions are more active in the hotter weather. If it turns out that lavender has stopped keeping our little venomous friends away, I'll change this review accordingly. Right now, I'm very pleased.
