(More customer reviews)I bought this plant as "Australian Tea Tree" about 10 years ago. It's absolutely beautiful. It has dark green, needle-like leaves, tiny dark red flowers with black centers and is light and lacy, not dense. It has survived the heat and humidity; near drought conditions [I water by hose when I can.]; the light freezes we normally have; and even some more extended heavy freezes, as well. I planted it in the 'L' by the door of our brick house when I first got it. One year, it's top branch had grown past the eaves of the house, and I lost that branch to a heavy freeze, but other than that, it's been totally happy. It does not get special attention, but doesn't seem to need it, either. I bought a second one with pink flowers a couple of years later, but it did not make it through the first winter. The only difference in it's care was that it was planted in the middle of the same flower bed; not in the more protected corner. I guess that means that it could use a little winter protection here in zone 8 Myrtle Beach, S.C. I bought a plant; about 8-9 inches tall; and it is about 12 feet tall this year; slightly above the eaves, again. It is still one of my favorite plants. [I apologize if my review comes up twice; I think I lost the first one.]

New Zealand Tea Bonsai Leptospermum scoparium 'Crimson Glory' Attractive New Zealand shrub called the "Tea Plant" by Captain Cook because of the agreeably aromatic tea his men made from the leaves. It is hardy in zones 9-10. In cooler regions it makes an excellent patio or house plant. Whether indoors or out this unusual plant needs full sun. It is native to Tasmania, New Zealand, Australia (New South Wales). It grows 8 feet tall but can be trimmed at any height. It is even used as a bonsai tree! To the left is a gorgeous flowering indoor 'tropical' bonsai! This tree produces small pink flowers which bloom 11 months out of the year (throughout the winter). Makes a unique Indoor Bonsai!

The Desert Rose is a native of East Africa. It will grow from 6 1/2 to 10 feet in the wild. It has fleshy leaves and beautiful 2-inch pink open-trumpet shaped flowers. It is a succulent, and forms more of a bush than a tree. It makes an excellent house plant or indoor bonsai. Needs lots of light and fresh air. Keep in a bright location in winter. In summer, if possible, move outdoors to a sunny or partly shaded location. Growing temperature should not be below 54 degrees. However, in the winter, keeping it cool (between 54-61 degrees) whch gives the plant a needed rest. Needs little water during winter, especially when kept cool. Increase water during growing and blooming periods. The total watering needed is similar to crassula, portulacaria and other succulents, and it will lose leaves if overwatered. The plant you will receive is growing in a 4" pot. It is about 8" tall and well-branched.

(More customer reviews)I got this gardenia bonsai in mid-February and it is not as I expected. Upon opening the package, the leaves are dull green, no buds, dried out and mostly dark brown. I followed the instruction and even did some research work through the internet. I even bought extra stuffs like plant food, cool mist humidifier just to revive the plant. Well now, after 3 weeks, 90% of the leaves are gone, branches bare, looks like those bare trees that you see during winter. I tried to contact the merchant and ask for advise, but I did not get any response. I have other bonsais and regular gardenias that are healthy and I really wanted this gardenia bonsai so bad.

With small, round leaves and large, pink flowers blooming from May to June, this broadleaf flowering bonsai is packed with stems for a gorgeous late spring show.Though the Satsuki Azalea has just one flower per stem, the shrub has so many stems that during the flowering season they are a solid mass of color. Grown in Japan for centuries, the Satsuki Azalea's graceful trunk movement adds distinct shape to the patio, deck or garden. This particular bonsai is 5 years old and stands 8 inches tall. Although evergreens can be displayed indoors for short periods of time, they need to experience seasonal changes and should be kept outside year round.
Brussels grows specimens only under carefully controlled conditions, meticulously training each tree with wire and pruning over a period of years. If upon the tree's arrival some leaves have dropped or turned slightly brown that does not mean the bonsai is unhealthy. Defoliation is the natural result of being in the low-light environment of a shipping box. When you receive your tree, place the box in a shaded area to unpack. Inspect tree for damage to branches or leaves. Water soil if dry, and place the tree in shade for at least one week before moving to a sunny location.
What is a Bonsai? Literally, the Japanese word "bonsai" means "tray tree" or "plant grown in a pot." The term refers to the artistic techniques used to capture the natural beauty of trees, rather than a specific variety of tree. Brussel's Golden Gate Ficus Bonsai Review

(More customer reviews)The first tree I ordered was badly scarred by wires. The company replaced it quickly with a very nice tree that had a great shape. The ficus is great if you have little natural light. My apartment is very dark and the tree did fine off of the artificial light. That said, this is NOT a tree for beginners. Ficus are notoriously finicky. They like regular water and the same light conditions day after day. Each time you vary the routiine significantly, it will drop all of its leaves. Moreover, this plant was hard to water. The pot doesn't have enough room for the water to soak in, so I had to use a spray bottle and lots of patience. It needs to be watered daily.
In short: good choice if you just don't have any good light, bad, bad choice for a first Bonsai or if you are forgetful or travel.

The subject I want to complain about is how it was packed for shipping: The potting dish sat in a styrofoam base which held the tree up fairly well and then the box was stuffed with "peanuts". However, the dish was not secured to the box and neither was the tree! Knowing how the mail deliverers handle packages, I'm not surprised that five WHOLE branches had been broken off because the tree bounced against the sides and most likely the top of the box!! There MUST be a better way to ship live plants! Valerie Foyle
