Great price, I thought the elephants on the vase were going to be a bit more detailed, they're small and kind of molded into the vase so you really have to know it's an elephant, can't tell just by looking at it. The colors work well with my living room so I don't mind.

The simple and elegant shape of this 9" vase lends itself to both elaborate and austere displays; imagine it filled with an abundance of overflowing flowers or a Zen like Ikebana arrangement. A single bright Gerbera daisy is particularly well suited to the size and shape of this vase. On its sides are elephant heads with rings. This type of vase "ear" is common in both ancient Chinese and modern European designs.Oxblood red glaze, also know in the west as "sang de boeuf," is highly prized though out the world. It first appeared in China during the Song dynasty (960 to 1279). It is an extremely difficult glaze to control. Producing the distinctive color requires an exact balance of heat, kiln atmosphere and glaze ingredients. Minute amounts of copper create the rich red color, but too much oxygen in the kiln will bring out shades of blue, green or even purple. Pieces exhibiting wider color spectrums are referred to as transmutation glazed, even though the actual glaze used is the same as a red piece.
