(More customer reviews)I ordered the J-Life queen size shikibuton with removable cover from their website (they're easily Googled); and, just a little tip-off, shipping/handling costs are lower over there than here on Amazon. Others have complained about the wait for their futon, but I didn't have this experience. The shipping notice from FedEx arrived approximately a week after I ordered, and it was on my doorstep the very next day--a very reasonable time-frame for a bed that's made to order.
The futon arrives rolled up and wrapped in serious protective layers. The cover comes in a separate package that is strapped to the outside of the futon wrapping with layer upon layer of packing tape. I go into such detail because I think it's of value to note that these guys don't mess around with shipping or protecting their goods.
Either here or on their site they've noted that it may take a few days for the futon to decompress and gain volume, but mine unrolled to much the size I expected. The cover is even more beautiful in person than in the swatch examples shown on the web--it has vibrant colours and an authentic pattern, and it's very well-made. Getting the cover onto the futon requires a little patience if you're doing it alone (it's queen size, after all, so it's bound to be a bit cumbersome), but it's easier if you have a friend to help.
This shikibuton is softer than your typical American futon but still quite firm, so if you're looking for a comfortable bed with good back support, this is perfect. There's a tag attached to the futon that provides tips for caring for your new bed--and this is key, as most Westerners will be unfamiliar with futon hoshi (Google it--there's even a video on YouTube). I would recommend both J-Life and this product to people seeking to improve the quality of their sleep.
