I bought them as part of Amazon's 4-for-3 promotion since my family and I are going on a road trip soon, and I thought they might be nice to have. While they are certainly good for just putting behind your neck (and these actually DO keep your head propped when you go to the side), I actually found them great for sticking vertically down your back between your shoulder blades. They help with posture and the end holds your head when you lean back. They are a lot easier than sticking a roll of towels between your back and the seat. My mom has back problems, and she absolutely loved this. Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)Many years ago, in the 1980s, I bought a futon at a shop that happened to sell cylindrical buckewheat hull pillows. I bought one, and over the years, began using it as a packable travel pillow.
For a back sleeping, these cylindrical pillows support the neck without lifting the head out of alignment with the back. They are compact, and comfortable. I was happy to find a replacement for my old (and now quite worn) pillow. This J-Life pillow is smaller round than my old pillow, but still needed to have some buckwheat hulls removed to find the right comfort and support level.
I initially tried a more standard-shaped buckwheat pillow, which works well enough, but is heavy and cumbersome.
