(More customer reviews)Tthese little gems are O.K. and do work well to keep bees of most kinds out of the nectar; however, there is just no humane way to rid one's yard of bees. Even though bees are a pain and create a problem for some hummingbirds these guards manage to keep the bees at bay. Our hummers just look at the bees gathered around the guards and laugh at them while eating the nectar. Typical of most predators the bees attempt to chase the birds but success falls to the birds.
One minor problem with the guards is that some insects are small enough to enter the mesh but too stupid to figure a way out and thusly meet their demise. When cleaning the mesh of the guards be sure to clean the inside as well.

(More customer reviews)This is by far my favorite sugarwater feeder. I'm a bird photographer and I often use two of these Perky Pet 160z feeders. I use one for attracting hummingbirds and one for attracting Baltimore Orioles. On the one I use for Orioles, I remove the yellow flowers from one or more ports, (after I observed an Oriole pull one out himself). The Orioles practicly line up once they discover it. The feeder is cheap but well constructed and heavy solid glass. Very easy to clean, and the yellow flowers pop out easy and are replacable in stores. I've used these feeders for years with out the need for replacing. The perches are well suited for both Orioles & hummingbirds. And unlike commercial oriole feeders, the perches don't have mechanical moving parts to open ports, and break, or difficult ports for birds. Another great feature for these feeders is they don't spill & leak nectar, are heavy and stable, even with the bigger visitors. I find the 16oz to be adequate, not to heavy for some of my set-ups, stays full long enough for a days bird photography with several all-day visitors. They should be taken down regularly for sanitizing, and to keep nectar fresh bout every 3 days, so anything bigger insn't necassary. I prefer to make my own sugarwater (1 part sugar to 4 parts water), with NO food coloring, The feeder is Red. Hummingbirds and Orioles Love this simple Feeder!!

The capacity is good for 3-4 days of fresh food for the hummers, it doesn't leak (!!!), and the clean, classic style looks good. I hesitated to switch out an older feeder that the birds loved, but the birds started using this one right away! They use the perch and just sit for a while. Only the underbase is plastic, but it is covered with the copper plate with the feeding flowers and you don't see the plastic. Plus, it is very easy to clean. I highly recommend this feeder.

First, the entire thing easily comes apart for cleaning, with no difficult to reach corners. Second, you don't need a funnel to fill it, just pour right in. Third, the built in ant-moat really works. Fourth, because I have some aggressive male hummers that don't like to share their feeder, several smaller feeders (like this mini) strategically placed around my yard keep the peace and allow everybody a drink.

It is more of a grapefruit ruby red than Christmas red, and looks nice in nature. The chains look nicely aged and seem to hang about 15 inches. Nothing stingy or cheap looking here.
