(More customer reviews)The only limitation to the Cuttlebug embossing folders is their size: this hearts folder will emboss a 4.5"x5.5" piece of cardstock. But embossed paper is usually used for layering, so the size limitation might not be as important as it seems. I can also emboss with my Xyron Creatopia Machine, and since its embossing system consists of a set of two rollers (as opposed to the Cuttlebug's folder), I can emboss paper of any length.
However, Xyron's machine has very few embossing patterns, whereas Cuttlebug has something for almost every type of card (except maybe sympathy--I use a tree embossing pattern for my sympathy cards). The hearts folder can be used for wedding, anniversary, friendship, 'missing you,' and even new baby cards. It has both intaglio and relief embossing, and is lots of fun to color (especially with chalk). I like to use a printed transparency film over the pattern to carry my message.
The Cuttlebug is basically a set of two rollers that press the folder pattern (back and front) into a piece of paper as the paper and folder are fed through the rollers. It's a simple concept, and the Cuttlebug performs it really well.

I've used it to create bookmarks and tags. It is incredbily versatile in scrapbooking and general papercrafting. It looks GREAT on clear acrylic sheets.
This will make a great addition to your embossing collection -- just don't pay more than $5 for it.

Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, 2-Pack, Spring Flowers and Paisley Review

(More customer reviews)I was happy to see Sizzix start producing embossing folders like these. ProvoCraft seemed to have the market cornered for quite a while. What I like about the plastic folders is that they produce a crisp embossed design because they press the cardstock or paper between a positive and a negative face of the design, making the resulting embossing very detailed. These should not be confused with the Sizzix Texturz, by the way--these aren't texture plates, they're folders which actually emboss images, not just add subtle texture.
One of the drawbacks and criticisms of the ProvoCraft folders was that the design wouldn't cover the entire front of an A2 size card. These Sizzix folders do! At first glance they seem pricier than the ProvoCraft, but Sizzix has bundled these into groups of coordinating designs of various sizes so that you're often getting an A2 size embossing folder as well as some smaller ones; or as in the case of this particular set, two A2 size folders, so they're priced competitively. I have a number of these sets now and I like the designs. They work great, too, with the Big Shot or the Cuttlebug, and they add a nice finishing touch to cards or layouts. I'd recommend them highly.
