Churchill China Royal Chelsea Blue Willow Tea Cups and Saucers, Set of 4 Review

I originally bought the 4-place setting set and was so happy with it that I decided to buy a few extra pieces just in case of breakage as time passes. These cups and saucers are very lovely. They feel smooth and somewhat delicate, and yet substantial at the same time. Normally I drink coffee in large mugs, but these dishes would be good for when I want to use something pretty just for me, or to set out for a visitor who stops by, or to use when you want to teach your children and family about gracious dining.

For more than 200 years Churchill Blue Willow has graced the finest tables in the World. It is the worlds most popular pattern in the history of Dinnerware. There is a legend behind this design "Once upon a time there lived a very wealthy mandarin who had a beautiful daughter named Hong Shee, who fell in love with her fathers sectretary, a man named Chang. To keep them apart, the mandarin imprisoned his daughter in the palace. One day she escaped, and the two lovers raced over the bridge to the waiting boat, with the mandarin in pursuit, they managed to elude the mandarin, reach the boat, and sail away. A storm developed, the boat foundered and the couple were lost at sea. It is said that the two love birds appeared immediately after-the spirits of Hong Shee and Chang." To represent elements of the legend, traditional Willow has several prominent features a tea house with a pavilion on the right. An Orange tree stands behind. A willow tree dominates the centre. In front of the willow is a bridge with three people. A boat with a person in it appears top left with another building and tree. And of course the two love birds face each other at the top.You today can enjoy the history by using Willow in a formal or casual setting. This vintage feel is applied to the Four 7oz Cups &Saucers in the set for 4. Manufactured in fine English Earthenware, Blue Willow Dinnerware products are both Microwave & Dishwasher safe. This collection is endorsed by Churchill China with its 200 years of history in the manufacture of dinnerware for the home.

Set of Two Vintage Gold Hued Chinese Onion Vases Review

Set of Two Vintage Gold Hued Chinese Onion Vases

This set of two vases comes from Reorient's private collection. They are fantastic examples of hand crafted porcelain wares from the Cultural Revolution era in China. The golden color is unique and the cracking in the glazes lends an impression of age and antiquity to the pair. They are roughly 30 years old but represent an era in Chinese history that is light years behind in terms of technology and civilization. Today China is home to some of the tallest buildings in the world and fastest trains on earth. But these vases were made during time (and only a sort time ago really) when the best technology China could muster was that of its truly ancient crafts, the same arts that brought clipper ships to China's shores in droves during the 16th and 17th century. They are truly beautiful works of porcelain art that show the classic workmanship of Chinese porcelain before automation and big box stores were part of the equation.

This set of richly colored vases are vintage quality porcelain, hand crafted in a traditional kiln in Northern China, circa 1970. Their creation follows the same techniques employed in Chinese porcelain since the 12th century. The color is a rare yellow-gold glaze that is both vibrant and warmly hued. The etched Chrysanthemum design that encircles each vase body is a common motif for prosperity in Chinese art, which is complimented by a delicate leaf design on the neck of the vase. Many classical blue and white porcelains from the Ming Dynasty era share the same decoration. The glaze also has hair-line crazing, often seen on vintage high temperature porcelains. Rather than detract from the character of this rare pair, the slightly crackled glaze enhances the stately appearance. The onion shape vase is a classic in Chinese porcelain but the slender contours give a distinctly modern impression. These vases will make a fitting addition to any estate collection with their unique craftsmanship and one-of-a-kind beauty. Fitted stands are included.
